My first Pregnancy
I found out I was pregnant in January of this year, 2024. We were on a trip to Cartagena, celebrating our friend’s wedding, and that’s when we tried for our baby. He was conceived there, which is so special because that’s also where we got married!
At first, I was very cautious about sharing the news because I wanted to make sure my first trimester went well. I’m aware of how fragile that stage is. I’ve always been a cautious person, and sometimes I find it hard to believe that so many blessings have come my way. At every appointment, I was bracing for the worst, which is not a great quality to have.
My symptoms were not bad overall. Looking back, I remember feeling nauseous mostly at night, but I was able to carry on with my day as usual, and I was actually very productive. I would wake up super early (I think that’s a pregnancy symptom!) and still had plenty of energy. I enjoyed lazy weekends resting up, but I continued working as usual.
During the second trimester, once I started showing, I felt more comfortable sharing the news and allowed myself to get excited. It’s not that I wasn’t excited at the beginning, but now it felt more real. As we got through the important and nerve-wracking appointments—where they test for normal organ development, genetic testing, etc.
—I finally let myself relax and enjoy it.
Once we found out he was a boy, I started working on my registry and buying the cutest clothes for him. We hosted a baby shower in Colombia and one in NYC, and my friends even surprised me with one, too! Between the showers, we received most of our registry gifts, and I purchased the rest. By the time we moved into our new apartment, I had everything I needed. It was nice to feel prepared and not rush at the end.
Toward the end, I felt huge, and it was definitely hard to move around and even turn over in my sleep. The pregnancy pillow, which I got early on, was so helpful for getting a good night’s sleep!
When I had my scheduled induction, I couldn’t believe I was about to meet my baby! These photos were taken around week 30, and I’m so glad we have these memories to look back on!
